About Us

Our Vision
To offer a safe, nurturing, and multicultural environment where every child is respected as a whole being: Body, mind, and emotion, and has the opportunity to grow through meaningful play, caring relationships, and real-life learning experiences.

Our Mission
To be a model of high-quality early childhood education, recognized for honoring the integral development of each child. We aim to provide experiences that combine care and education, respecting each child’s rhythm, interests, and potential, nurturing autonomous, joyful, and empathetic individuals.

Our Philosophy
At The Yoyo House, we believe in the itegrated nature of care and education, because education goes beyond content knowledge and children learn also with their emotions, desires, and needs. Our daily practice is grounded in:
Play, both free and guided, as the child’s primary language. Caring and respectful interactions that nurture emotional security. Rich, prepared environments that inspire curiosity and discovery. Positive, meaningful relationships that build trust and belonging. Multiculturalism and diversity. We also integrate the Portuguese language into daily experiences. Partnership with families, maintaining close, transparent, and collaborative communication.
The Bond is What Sets Us Apart

Early childhood education is rooted in relationships. Children learn best in environments where they feel safe, known, and valued — where care and education are not separate, but woven into every interaction.
In a licensed home daycare like The Yoyo House, relationships are at the center of everything we do. Small group sizes allow us to truly know each child — to understand their unique needs, personalities, and rhythms. Here, children are not part of a crowd, but part of a community.
Unlike larger daycare centers, where groups are be bigger and staff rotation is frequent, home daycares offer consistency and emotional security — two things that are essential for healthy social-emotional development. Children grow in confidence when they see familiar faces, hear familiar voices, and build trusting relationships with the same caregivers every day.
The integrated nature of care and education in a home daycare setting means that every moment is a learning moment — whether it's sharing a meal, playing outdoors, or resolving conflicts with friends. Learning happens naturally, through play and connection, guided by an educator who knows how to support the whole child: socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.
At The Yoyo House, this integration happens naturally, in a way that is harder to achieve in larger, institutional settings.
For families seeking personalized, relationship-based early childhood education for toddlers in Clairemont and nearby areas, The Yoyo House, as a licensed home daycare is a trusted provider of child development and offers what many centers cannot:
-
Small groups for individualized attention
-
Strong, secure relationships with consistent caregivers
-
A calm, home-like environment that feels safe and familiar
-
Integrated care and learning focused on the whole child
-
A slower pace, where childhood is respected, not rushed
Because the foundation of all learning is feeling safe, seen, and loved, we believe that home daycare is not just a practical choice — but an educational one.
Our Curriculum

The Whole Child And The Integrated Nature of Learning and Care
At The Yoyo House, we believe in caring for the whole child — nurturing not only cognitive development but also social, emotional, and physical growth. Rooted in the principles of progressive education, developmental psychology, and humanistic care, the whole-child approach sees each child as a complete, capable person. We focus on building strong relationships, fostering curiosity, and supporting emotional well-being, so that children feel safe to explore, learn, and grow. We also believe on the Integrated Nature of Learning, were
caring and educating go hand in hand. At our daycare, children are nurtured in a way that meets their physical, emotional, and intellectual needs simultaneously.

The Six Learning Rights of Early Childhood
We structure our curriculum around the six fundamental learning rights of every child:
1- To Belong: Building strong relationships with peers and adults while respecting diversity.
2- To Play: Exploring the world through different forms of play.
3- To Participate: Taking an active role in their daily routines and decision-making.

6- To Know Oneself: Developing a strong sense of identity and self-worth.

The Five Areas of Experience
To support the development of the whole child, our activities are structured around five key areas of experience:
1- The Self, the Other, and Us – Encouraging social skills, empathy, cultural awareness, friendships, and cooperation.
2- Body, Gestures, and Movement – Strengthening motor coordination, body expression, and sensory experiences.
3- Traces, Sounds, Colors, and Shapes: Exploring creativity through arts, music, and visual expression.
4- Listening, Speaking, Thinking, and Imagining: Supporting language development, storytelling, and critical thinking.
